Letter From The Editor: We’re back, baby.
I wrote a little in this post about why Insatiable Booksluts both stopped updating and will start updating again. Now we’re launching our first new issue–our first “issue” full stop, since we never did a monthly format before. I left the topic for this month open-ended, though it leans Halloween because October. I told everyone to write whatever the fuck they want. We’re happy to be back. We’re celebrating. We missed you and each other.
I’ve been scrambling a little for the past month to try to spiff up the site (I’m writing this before moving the new design over so fingers crossed that it turns out okay), plan some new content, and get the band back together. As of tomorrow, I have ten more days to get everything wrapped up. I’m trying to be on top of things.
Recently, I was on a trip with one of my best friends. For maybe the first time since I bought my car, Britney Spears was played on purpose over the sound system; to my surprise, I not only don’t hate Britney Spears like I assumed I did (and my recovery from music snobbery is a whole other post that I will be writing), but one of her songs has become my new anthem: “Work Bitch”. This song has put my life in a whole new perspective in the exact time that I needed it. I want IB to be here; I want to contribute something to the world of media that is thoughtful. I want to contribute something where ideas are tested before they’re slopped out for clicks. (I’m not saying that nobody else is also putting out good content, but there are way, waaay too many articles that I read and think, “How did an editor let this unsubstantiated bullshit even make it past the first draft??”) That’s why I’m choosy about contributors even though it’s a labor of love and not financial riches; I probably shouldn’t be able to demand quality, but I do. And they deliver. I’m so proud of them and fiercely joyous to have them on my team.
If we want to make all of this happen, we better work (bitch). And that means that I have to step it up. I even made a t-shirt to commemorate this new leaf in our history:
This is a month for firsts. It’s our first monthly issue. Our first foray into film and television. Our first posts by some of our new contributors. (Hi, new booksluts!) Our first activity pages, if I can manage to get them done in the next ten days. I’m hoping y’all like at least some of it. If not, let me know? You can check out all of the posts by going to our home page or to this issue’s tag (yes, it has a tag and errything, it is an official issue).
I also want to open the site up to more one-off content submissions, especially reviews. If you listen to an amazing album, read an amazing book, see an amazing movie and want to tell the world about it without committing to a monthly article, submit it! I want to hear from you.
We hope you like the new IB. We’re glad to be back. Time to get to work.
